The fishing on Lake Of The Ozarks has been good. The water temperatures range from the low to upper 50s in much of the lake.

Bass fishermen that are looking for largemouth and spots have had success on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwaters and jigs. The best bass in the clear waters of the dam and Gravois areas are being caught deep on shad colored spook jrs and 1/4oz chuggers in the morning, and 3/4oz jigs with plastic craws in brown & green shades later in the day. The best spots are bluff end points and channel edges where they swing one way or the other. The bigger fish in the Glaize are coming from moderate depths around docks and bluff points. Spook jrs and 3/8oz buzzbaits have been good in white and shad patterns. 1/2oz  jig and craw combos have also been productive in black & brown. The water ranges from moderately clear to stained. Shallow shoreline banks and secondary points are holding most of the bass in the Nianguas where the water ranges from moderately clear to stained. 3/8 ounce indiana & colorado blade spinnerbaits have been best in white and shad patterns with nickel or nickel & gold blades finishes. Shad colored spooks and 1/2oz black & brown jigs with craw trailers have also produced some fish here. The Osage is much the same with moderately clear to stained waters. Shallow points have been the most productive spots with the same lures as listed for the Nianguas.

Anglers after hybrid stripers and white bass can find plenty of action in the backs of small creeks and coves off of the main rivers. Look for these fish across shallow to mid depth flats and near creek channel swings at the edges of flats, or suspending in the shallows or moderate depths over deeper open water near deeper creek channels on the edge of deep flats. 1/4oz to 1oz spoons, 3/8oz to 3/4oz blade baits, 1/4oz to 3/4oz in-line spinners and long arm spinnerbaits, and 1/4oz to 1/2oz diving crankbaits are all good lure options. Shad and chartruse shad type color patterns have been the best bet for these fish in all areas.

Extra strong and highly sensitive technique specific Platinum, Team Series, Instinct and American Classic Freshwater Rods from All Star Graphite Rods (www.allstarrods.com) or Pflueger Trion Graphite Rods (www.pfluegerfishing.com) are best for bass fishing. The 6’ to 7’ models in light to medium heavy power ratings get the nod for most of this fishing when paired with Pflueger Supreme, Summit, Trion or Medalist Reels. Spool baitcasting equipment with a strong monofilament line with low stretch and high abrasion resistance like Supreme Super Tough in 10 to 20 pound test, or go with a tough braided line like Shakespeare Ugly Braid testing from about 30 to 65. Select a strong but limp monofilament line with low memory that is designed for long casts with reduced coiling like Supreme Super Smooth in 6 to 14 pound tests or Ugly Braid from about 20 to 40 for spinning gear (www.shakespeare-fishing.com).

Walleye and crappie are also options at Lake Of The Ozarks at this time of the year. Top quality polarized sunglasses designed for fishing like the Master Angler Series from Flying Fisherman (www.flyingfisherman.com), and high performance floating tools designed for fishing like Advanced Lightweight Tools from X Tools (www.xtools.us) are critical items to have along on fishing trips. Real Tree Camouflage Patterns (www.realtree.com) are a vital part of our hunting success when we’re off the water.
