The fishing on Lake Of The Woods rates fair to good for several species at this time, but is starting to slow down now. The weather and water is cooling off quickly now.
Muskie anglers will do best to fish large in-line spinners, long arm spinnerbaits and diver style jerkbaits around boulders and other rock cover on points and irregular shoreline banks. Good color patterns include black, white, and firetiger A big jig and soft plastic bait combo is a good throw back lure option for followers that fail to strike. Casting is the best option right now.
Pike can be caught on the same lure choices listed for muskie, but they will also hit smaller bass sized versions of these baits as well.
Choose top quality rods, reels, lines and leaders for muskie and pike. Extremely strong and durable but sensitive rods that facilitate long, accurate casts in the 7’ to 7’6” range are best for most applications in medium heavy to heavy power ratings.
