            Northern pike fishing is rated as good at this time on northern Manitoba, Canada’s North Knife Lake. These fish are locating in and around weed cover and rock cover. Flats in bays are producing the biggest pike in large shallow water areas. School N Shad Spinnerbaits from Simms Sport Fishing Tackle through Simms Outdoors (www.simmsoutdoors.com) in the Baby and Original models with 3 or 4 willow leaf blades have been producing well. J-Mac In-line Spinners have taken some fish too and so have Baby and Original Simms Thump N Shad Spinnerbaits and Esox Cobra Magnum Jigs (www.baitrigs.com) paired with 6 inch Yum Shad Baits. We’ve also taken some good fish on Simms Rattlin Scale Spoons in the 2oz size. Chartruse and other bright color patterns have been the best, but white has produced fish too.

            Lake trout fishing has also been good. We’ve taken all of our lakers on School N Shad Spinnerbaits in the Original and Monster sizes with 4 or 5 willow leaf blades from Simms Sport Fishing Tackle through Simms Outdoors (www.simmsoutdoors.com). The biggest fish have all come from shallow rock flats on the main lake near islands. The best color patterns have been blue shad, pearl white and natural shad.

            Choose top quality rods, reels, lines and leaders for tackling big pike and lake trout. Extremely strong and durable but sensitive rods that facilitate long, accurate casts in the 7’ to 7’6” range are best for most applications in medium heavy to heavy power ratings.
