10 ways to better your chances of success when stalking rabbits with an air-rifle

If you’re thinking of stalking rabbits with an air rifle, there are a few things you need to know. Here are 10 top tips to help you get started. Happy hunting!

Choose the right air rifle for the job.

There are a variety of air rifles on the market, so it’s important to choose one that’s suited to your needs. If you’re going to be stalking rabbits in thick cover, for example, you’ll need an air rifle that’s powerful enough to penetrate the vegetation.

Use the right ammunition.

Again, there are various types of pellets on the market, so it’s important to choose one that’s suitable for your air rifle and the job at hand. If you’re unsure, ask a knowledgeable friend or visit your local gun shop for advice.

Be stealthy.

Rabbits have very keen senses and will easily detect any movement or noise, so it’s important to be as stealthy as possible when stalking them. Wear dark, quiet clothing and move slowly and carefully to avoid detection.

Understand rabbit behavior.

Spend some time observing rabbits in their natural habitat to understand their behavior and patterns. This will help you to predict their movements and plan your stalk accordingly.

Get into position early.

When you’re ready to take your shot, make sure you’re in position well before the rabbit is within range. This will give you time to steady yourself and take a clean shot.

Take your time.

Don’t rush your shot – take your time to line up a clear, clean kill shot. A rushed shot is more likely to result in a wounded animal, which is not only cruel but illegal in many countries.

Be patient.

Stalking rabbits can be a waiting game, so it’s important to be patient. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get a shot off straight away – keep at it and eventually, you’ll get your chance.

Follow up on wounded animals.

If you do wound an animal, it’s your responsibility to follow up and ensure that it is dispatched humanely. This often means tracking the animal down and finishing it off with a second shot.

Practice, practice, practice.

As with anything in life, practice makes perfect. The more you stalk rabbits, the better you’ll become at it. So get out there and put in the hours – you’ll be a pro in no time!

Enjoy yourself.

Last but not least, remember to enjoy yourself! Stalking rabbits can be a fun and rewarding experience, so make sure you take the time to savor it.
